K A U A' I , You have my heart.
Oh, how I love the beautiful island of Kaua'i. It's arguably the most beautiful places on Earth. This island is mostly covered in tropical rainforest with oxygen-rich crisp air and exquisite beaches. She rains when she wants, so expect lush rainfalls. This place is for adventure seekers looking for a feeling so rare. Imagine the movie Avatar meets Jurassic Park meets heaven on Earth.
There are incredible sights to be seen and lots of adventures to be experienced. I love the beauty of this island as well of it's inhabitants. I have friends that were raised on this island and they are very special people that have a different spirit to them. While I was there I went on one my favorite hikes, the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast. This time I didn't make it to the waterfall, which I advise you to plan ahead and start in the morning. Also, wear proper shoes because it can get very muddy.
Close by the hiking trail there are caves you can walk into that will give you chills down your spine.
A must see is the Waimea Canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It's a jaw dropping picturesque sight. No photos will do it justice.
I also got to surf Hanalei while I was there. This was a big deal for me because many people assume I surf being raised in Hawaii. But actually, growing up I was terrified of the waves because I experienced a scary incident when I was young that had me walk away from the water. I was pulled under and almost drowned. This year I told myself I was going to face my fears starting with surfing. It was such an incredible experience to get back into the water, I got up on my very first wave and now am hooked. This wave is great for beginners, like myself.
Hanalei pier is a great place to watch the sunset where you can see locals parked on the beach with their families enjoying pau hana beers. This trip taught me a lot and I recommend anyone looking for a life changing experience to travel to the island of Kaua'i. I'll be back soon I'm sure of it.
